Japanese is one of the most disciplined people in the entire world. They are known for their time management and dedication to work. It is brilliant how the product of their work provides so much output and profit.  Another thing to make a note about Japanese is their food. Japanese cuisine has a variety of seasonal and regional dishes. The Japanese have the habit of combining one staple food like rice with a main dish and a side dish. Some of the main dishes in Japan are rice, Sushi, Tempura, Tofu, Udon, Soba, Ramen, Yakitori, sashimi and other items like pickles, sweets, and beverages. Among all these dishes, sushi was one of the dishes that became famous all around the world.

  • Rice.
  • Sushi.
  • Soba Noodles.
  • Tofu.
  • Tempura.


Rice is a staple food used by Japanese from long back. In most parts of Japan rice is consumed almost at every meal. In the northern parts of Japan, people mostly prefer Wheat as compared to rice. White rice is more popular than brown rice, but now due to health concerns, people are slowly moving to brown rice. The white rice when coked becomes very sticky.


Sushi got introduced in Japan in the Yayoi Period where the fish gets fermented with salt and rice, and later the rice was discarded.  In the later period, the fermented fish was consumed along with the rice and in today’s world, instead of using rice for fermentation they use vinegar. In the modern times, sushi has become very popular and is a fast food available in almost every part of Japan, and it also has become very famous all over the world.

Some of the popular types of Sushi are:

  • Nigiri: Nigiri is a small rice bowl filled with fish, shellfish, etc. on the top. Varieties of fish get used as the toppings, some of them are tuna, shrimp, squid, eel, octopus, and fried eggs get added for a good taste.
  • Gunkan: Gunkan is a small bowl filled with rice and seaweed. Fishes and other seafood get added as toppings. Some of the most common toppings added are fish eggs and sea urchin.
  • Oshizushi: Oshizushi is a pressed sushi where the fish pressed against the sushi rice in a wooden box.
  • Chirashi: The sushi rice topped with sea food, mushrooms, and other vegetables.

Soba Noodles:

Soba noodles made out of wheat it is very thick and prepared in both hot and cold dishes. Some of the traditional soba dishes are more/Zaru Soba, Kake Soba, Kitsune soba, etc.


The tofu made out of soy milk. It is pressed down into blocks. The tofu is an excellent source of protein and is very popular in Japan. Tofu is one of the most extraordinary dishes among vegetations.


Tempura is a fired mix of vegetables and sea food. Portuguese introduced tempura. Some of the most famous tempura are Ebi, Sakana, Nasu, Kinoko, Kabocha etc.
